John Powell – Binge News
Tax season has come and gone and that brings to mind an old saying: “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” That quote needs to be amended to include “Muscles ‘R Us dominating Survivor 48”. With each passing episode no cracks, except cutting the dead weight in David, are appearing with the alliance strolling to the finale on Wednesday, May 21st. For them, the game is on cruise control unless Kamilla or Mary wants to make a move and that isn’t likely with the supposed uprising, revolution quashed last episode. Mitch, Eva, Shauhin, Joe and Kyle seem content to let the alliance just ride things out until it is only them and Mary despite what the editing shows.
Push could come to shove this upcoming episode though as Mary, Mitch or Kamilla are clearly on the chopping block. If the group puts Kamilla in their crosshairs Kyle might be forced to reveal his hand.
When I spoke to Star, she backed up the fact that Joe was indeed running the game, island but characterized him in a softer light than David and Chrissy did.
She said: “People wanted to talk to him. He made people want to work with him because he was the strong guy. He was winning. He seemed like he had his head on straight. He came off as the logical one. He didn’t say much but he said just enough to make you feel like he was working with you. Just enough to give you the confidence to think, ‘Hey, maybe this is something.’
You watch it. Mitch is loving him. Mitch is like, ‘Yeah, I’m a part of this group.’ They made him think he was part of a strong five but we all know he wasn’t. He was part of the Weak Four. Like, what are you talking about? And I can say that, because I was also part of the Weak Four.
He was supposed to be part of the revolution but Joe made him feel so good, so secure, that he really believed he was in that group. That’s what Joe does. He makes you feel good, like The Godfather. He puts money in your pocket, he has you driving a Cadillac but don’t turn on him because the moment you do he’ll show his hand and you’ll see he was never rocking with you in the first place.”
So, Star does portray him as the Kingpin of the island but not a bullying type like Chrissy and David did.
When I asked her what aspects she was considering when picking a winner she said this: “We all know the theme of this season was ‘honest and loyal.’ Yeah — laugh out loud — but that really was the theme. The truth is, people were honest and loyal…to the people they chose to be honest and loyal to, right? So for me, I told myself: My vote is going to the person who was honest and loyal. If that wasn’t you, then you already shot yourself in the foot because you’re not getting my vote. At the end of the day, my vote went to the person who showed honesty and loyalty, who stood on that honesty and loyalty, and who stood on business. The person who stood on business? That’s who got my vote.”
One has to wonder who wasn’t “honest” or “loyal” in her mind…or is a betrayal yet to come? There has been talk about Eva possibly stabbing Joe in the back but I cannot see that happening. They have a bond stronger than Super Glue at this point because it is an emotional, father/daughter like connection.

Next Time On Survivor: “Coconut Etiquette’” – One castaway struggles with betraying their allies. Power in the game is up for grabs when one castaway is chosen for a journey and must decide if the risk is worth the reward. Then, paranoia runs rampant when a castaway knowingly tries to stir up chaos.”
On with this week’s Survivor Stock Ticker:

As we are seeing in her lively, entertaining exit interviews, Star should have had way more air time than she receives. She would have injected a lot of humour into the show. She made some really bad decisions though which cost her the game.

With so many advantages, so many strong bonds and Ponderosa filling up, Eva is also getting even more stronger in the game. Unlike some of the others, she doesn’t have a negative relationship with the jury members but will having so many advantages work against her if there comes a time when she has to defend her resume?

The outsiders, the rebels see him as someone who will at least entertain their wild revolutionary schemes. His social game is right up there with Eva’s.

She was targeted with three votes last tribal council from Kamilla, Mitch and Star. That shouldn’t mean all that much as the Muscles didn’t vote for her, are protecting her, still it puts more of a spotlight on her as a player.

He has been viewed as expendable by Muscles for the longest time. Is his time finally up?

Who’s next to go?

He is the easiest out now and is more of a threat in challenges than Mary or Kamilla.
