Survivor 49 Stock Ticker: Episode One

John Powell – Binge News

Perhaps the castaways are finally learning. The Survivor 49 players went full throttle from the very start. In a three tribe season of Survivor you have to move it or you will lose it as we have seen many, many times before. Episode One, Act One of a Horror Film, has everyone scrambling to quickly shield themselves, to quickly put that support group in place and those who didn’t move quite quick enough were left out in the cold.

Nicole Mazullo. We hardly knew yah. From what we saw she was kind of floating around while others were really digging in. What we didn’t see is that Nicole was actually fighting for her life in the game. She was searching for idols and she was trying to establish bonds, and did with Alex, or at least she thought so.

“Yes, I was looking for idols and I was strategizing with Alex. I thought that I had a good relationship going with him. I was strategizing with Sophie, even with Jake. I put a lot of effort into trying to cultivate a relationship with Jake and so there was a lot of those conversations going on. I also did look for idols. Whenever I was helping to build the shelter, I was looking. On day two and three, I alone tried to look so I ran off. There were definitely moments that I was fighting for my safety in ways that maybe didn’t translate to the big screen,” she told me.

When I asked her what she wished the producers would have shown about her journey it was: “I think just that alliance building or attempt to build alliances I would have liked to have been shown just so that people could see that I was a strategic player and I was thinking ahead or attempting to…Maybe an additional confessional that explained why I took the helm on the immunity challenges and took the lead on those things to provide more clarity to the audience but at the end of the day, people will come to whatever conclusion they want so I’m happy with how it went.”

My written interview for Global TV is here.

You can watch it here:

Nicole’s experience is common in Survivor in that, for whatever reason, someone’s full game isn’t shown and sometimes fans, viewers get the wrong impression.

Speaking of impressions…

Kele: There is already some turmoil and I don’t think that will translate well later in the game especially if Jake is seen as a massive target and dumped early.

Uli: Nothing amazing, nothing horrible. A middle of the road tribe who will do well.

Hina: I get back vibes from Hina. Except for MC who is already proving to be a powerhouse I don’t see anyone who stands out especially when it comes to the challenges.

Next Time On Survivor: “Cinema” – Reality and hunger begin to take their toll as the castaways grapple with their limited resources to find food on the island. Generational differences come into sharp focus as some castaways find it challenging to keep up with the younger players’ current lingo. Then, a never-before-seen disadvantage appears in the game during this week’s immunity challenge.

On with this week’s Survivor Stock Ticker:

As a financial crime consultant she sure didn’t have any clue was being voted out. Her Spidey Sense just wasn’t tingling. Not having your finger on the pulse of the tribe at any time sets you up for possible failure.

She got a lot and I mean a lot of screen time. Her impressions and impressions are right on the money so far.

She is right in the mix from the very start. How much influence does she really have? We will soon see but she is nudging people in her direction which is always a good sign.

Members of her own tribe have stated right in the open that they consider her to be one of their weakest links. Not a good start to her game.

Steven is already getting on people’s nerves. He is just trying far too hard to fit in.

He just doesn’t fit in.

Who’s next to go?

Kele

Although Jake could be the surprise boot, she just doesn’t seem long for this game based on her edit. She is already on the outs with her own tribe.

Uli

At the start of the game with such few members a tribe needs stability and she seems like a unpredictable wild card.

Hina

I am guessing he is the “Generational differences come into sharp focus as some castaways find it challenging to keep up with the younger players’ current lingo.” He is already an outsider and that’s not good in a tribe with so few members.
