Survivor Stock Ticker: Episode Five: Why So Serious?

The Kele Tribe had a big chicken dinner after winning a reward on “I’m a Wolf, Baby”. Now, it wasn’t Swiss Chalet or KFC but it still hits the spot when all you have eaten is rice and sand for ten or more days. Some fans were shocked that the tribe decided to send that chicken off to the great beyond to fill their bellies but castaways have been living off the land for as long as the series has been around. This season alone, the tribes have killed crabs and fish in search of sustenance and that all-important protein. Nobody protested those kills.

In the past, the tribes have not only gone fishing and scoured the beaches for crabs and other creatures but have hunted wild boars, small sharks, rats, goats and even more chickens. Just like gathering, hunting is nothing new to Survivor. In all those instances, the tribes were grateful and used all of the animal that they could and at times decided to allow the animals to go into the wild. This aspect of the show is not alarming to any fan who remembers how on the Australian Outback, Michael Skupin killed a pig upsetting bartender and vegan, Kimmi Kappenberg.

At the time, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals protested demanding that there be an investigation. CBS simply replied: “We firmly believe that our viewers recognize that hunting and fishing as a means of sustenance have been acceptable since the dawn of time.”

With season 49 it might be telling or even revealing that there were no cries of protest when fish and crabs were being killed and eaten earlier this season. I will let you be the judge.

In another tribal switch-up, the two tribes are becoming three this episode. I don’t get it. How are the players supposed to be strategic when their plans are constantly being shifted around? It really hinders the gameplay, that’s for sure. We don’t need any more players being sabotaged by shuffles. The show should just return to the two tribe format.

Next Time On Survivor: “The Devil’s Shoes” – A major shakeup hits the game when two tribes turn to three. New tribe members size each other up but with only four players on each tribe there is not much room to hide. Then, heat and exhaustion take a major toll on one castaway.

Mouse over the space between the two brackets below to see a possible spoiler of who is a victim of “heat and exhaustion”.

On with this week’s Survivor Stock Ticker:

Jason wasn’t a terrible player even though he himself doesn’t rate his game highly. He was doing just fine until the switch.

She has been making some moves within the Kele Tribe but is also drawing a lot of attention to herself and not all of that is good.

She hasn’t become a mastermind over night, however, she is being consulted more than ever and people are listening to her thoughts and ideas. She has gained a bit of momentum.

Her more aggressive gameplay is admirable. She is even more prominent on everyone’s radar though.

Who’s next to go?

Since we have no idea how the latest tribe shuffle will throw everything out of whack we will stick with two picks.

Hina

The other three have an unbreakable bond. She is definitely the odd woman out.

Kele

Here is Sage’s chance to get rid of the thorn in her side, Shannon.

Uli

She would be the weakest of the four.
