Survivor Stock Ticker

Survivor Stock Ticker: Episode 11

Nobody wants that “purple edit” on Survivor. It is the kiss of death from the producers. What is the “purple edit”? Those are castaways who were cast, are on the island playing but are invisible on the show. No confessionals, no gameplay or personal moments and only appear in the background of group scenes until they are voted off. While hers wasn’t that bad, Sophie Segreti was ignored until the merger. Meanwhile, her fellow players have spoken so highly of her in their exit interviews.

Jawan said of her to me: “Well, I want to, first off, give ‘Yellow Sophie’ her flowers. Man, she’s such a dominant force! As a video editor, I’m disappointed at the other video editors for doing her dirty because I remember early days, even before we did the merge and the tribe swaps, she definitely was someone that was very competitive. When I did the disadvantage way back, she is a force! Going back to the merge situation, on the MC vote, when I found out she was putting my name in the mix, I’m like: ‘Okay, she can be a problem.’  I think what made me want to trust her was her relationship with Sage.”

It seems we missed a lot when it comes to Sophie’s overall gameplay. Without comments such as Jawan’s we wouldn’t have a clue how Sophie hit the ground running. It is true that Hina didn’t vote someone off until a month into the series but you would think instead of showing much of the fluff and filled that would could have seen Sophie growth as a player considering she turned out to be a massive influence on the game at the merger and beyond. She was a big factor in many of the other players’ strategies and stories.

It has been said that Survivor 49 was kind of short-shifted because the mega Survivor opus of 50 is on the horizon. I doubt that is the case since Survivor is always a solid production but the editing has been questionable since the show expanded to 90 minutes. If you weigh what the castaways have said ended up on the cutting room floor versus what was eventually included, it is clear that those edits were geared towards sitcom elements such as players bumbling in awkward or comical situations and not gameplay elements.

Here is what we will see tonight as we approach next week’s big finale:

“The Die Is Cast” – With the biggest reward of the season on the line, one member of a newly established alliance hopes to earn the extra sustenance to propel themselves further in the game. Castaways’ advantages come into focus as the days left in the game dwindle. Then, one alliance member must decide if they should flip against one of their own at a jaw-dropping tribal council.

I suspect the “one alliance member must decide if they should flip against one of their own” is Soph still debating if she should move to take out Savannah or not. I would bet that she doesn’t remaining with Savannah and Rizo as her safest path to the finals. The problem with that is Soph is seen as riding the coattails of the others and that cannot bode well for her if she makes the final tribal council.

On with this week’s Survivor Stock Ticker:

She was just too much of a threat. Even her own allies realized that. Like she told me though, she couldn’t and wouldn’t hold back. It just wasn’t in her to do so.

He did incredibly well for himself last episode socially, strategically and he even won immunity.

As the final immunity and tribal nears though, he has just presented himself as an immediate threat. He desperately needs to win immunity or his game could be over.

Who’s next to go?

He is the biggest obstacle to the others moving ahead as a group. If he doesn’t win immunity one assumes he is done like dinner.
