Survey: Teens tuning into YouTube not Netflix

A new survey has confirmed what most parents already know, YouTube is the streaming destination for teens.

Piper Jaffray’s fall 2019 survey states that 37% of the teens they polled are making YouTube their streaming choice while 35% would pick Netflix instead.

The good news for Netflix though is that out of the other streaming platforms theirs is the one teens log into the most. Hulu was the preferred choice for 7% of respondents, 3% picked Amazon Prime Video and 12% would rather watch cable TV.

Taking Stock With Teenssurvey highlights discretionary spending trends and brand preferences from 9,500 teens across 42 U.S. states with an average age of 15.8 years. Generation Z contributes approximately $830 billion to U.S. retail sales annually and represents an influential consumer group where wallet size and allocation provide a proxy for category interest.

Piper Jaffray is a leading investment bank and institutional securities firm.
