Anne With an E cancelled

Anne ain’t coming back.

After producing three seasons of the iconic Canadian character, CBS and Netflix have decided to end Anne With an E. The upcoming third season premiering on Netflix January 3rd will be the last.

“We’ve been thrilled to bring the quintessentially Canadian story of Anne with an E to viewers around the world. We’re thankful to producers Moira Walley-Beckett and Miranda de Pencier and to the talented cast and crew for their incredible work in sharing Anne’s story with a new generation. We hope fans of the show love this final season as much as we do, and that it brings a satisfying conclusion to Anne’s journey,” said CBC and Netflix in a statement.

Back in October of this year, the CBC announced that they would no longer be partnering with Netflix on any forthcoming projects.

Based on the celebrated Anne of Green Gables series of books by Lucy Maud Montgomery, the series told the adventures of Anne Shirley, an orphan who is adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert and moves to the town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island.

The finale of season three aired last Sunday on CBC in Canada.

The series starred Amybeth McNulty as Anne Shirley Cuthbert, Geraldine James as Marilla Cuthbert, R. H. Thomson as Matthew Cuthbert, Dalila Bela as Diana Barry and Lucas Jade Zumann as Gilbert Blythe.
