Netflix cancels MST3K, host appeals to Shudder

The MSTies are not happy.

Host Jonah Ray Rodrigues announced on Twitter that Netflix has decided not to go forward with another season of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

“So, Netflix decided to not do another season of MST3K. We are off to Get Down in Lilyhammer while the OA helps us take it One Day At A Time. We will be in group therapy with Tuca & Bertie, Jessica Jones, & Lady Dynamite. The sessions will be run by Gypsy (w/ Naomi Watts.) thread,” he Tweeted.

“We don’t know what the future holds for the show, it always seemed to figure out how to survive. From Comedy Central to SyFy. Then kept alive by RIFFTRAX & Cinematic Titanic. whatever happens, I want everybody to know that getting a chance to be on this show was a dream come true,” he continued.

Rodrigues also made a plea to horror streaming service Shudder to perhaps pick the series up.

“Now if only I can convince @shudder to pick us up and to let us share a night with Joe Bob Briggs?” he wondered.

Joel Hodgson, the creator of the series was hopeful the series would continue elsewhere.

“If you didn’t see the backer update, I announced today that #MST3K is not doing a third season for Netflix. It’s not the end of MST3K, It’s just the end of the first chapter of bringing back MST3K,” he Tweeted.

The news couldn’t come at a worse time as Thanksgiving holds a special place in the hearts of MSTies as that is when Comedy Central would broadcast Mystery Science Theater 3000 marathons.

Shout Factory has continued the tradition and this year’s begins on at 12 pm ET / 9 am PT on Thursday, November 28th.
