Project Greenlight is returning to HBO.
HBO has ordered a new, eight episode season. HBO is partnering with Miramax Television for the new series.
The original series debuted in 2001, ran for four seasons and was cancelled in 2016. The show featured first-time filmmakers submitting their scripts and one of them was chosen to turn their script into a feature film. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon served as the executive producers and also as judges and mentors.
In this revival, the twist is only female filmmakers will be a part of the competition. Actress, producer and writer Issa Rae will appear in every episode as the executive producer, providing guidance and mentorship to these aspiring filmmakers. The finished film will then premiere on HBO Max.
“By relaunching the iconic PROJECT GREENLIGHT with the brilliant Issa Rae and HBO Max, we continue our efforts to mine the Miramax library and create exciting, groundbreaking new content as well as forge opportunities for a new generation of innovative voices to be heard,” said Marc Helwig, Head of Worldwide Television, Miramax, in a statement.
