The Evil Dead are returning but only on HBO Max.
Evil Dead Rise is only being released on streaming services around the world. HBO Max in the U.S., on Canal Plus in the U.K. and Metropolitan in France.
The setting for the new film will will move from the cabin in the woods to a city as two sisters (Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan) reunite only to be plagued by demons. The sequel will play off the original movies and not the reboot from 2013.
Sam Rami, the creator of the series, series star Bruce Campbell will be acting as executive producers. Campbell, however, won’t be reprising his role as the demon-slaying hero, Ash. Lee Cronin (The Hole In The Ground) will be directing the film as Rami is busy shooting the next Doctor Strange movie.
“At its core, ‘Evil Dead’ is about ordinary people overcoming extraordinarily terrifying situations. I can’t wait for Alyssa and Lily to fill the blood-soaked shoes of those who have come before them and carry on that tradition. Evil Dead Rise will in some ways break with series tradition however, as the movie is set in a city high-rise rather than a dingy cabin tucked away somewhere in the woods,” said Bruce Campbell in a statement.
The Evil Dead franchise consists of three movies – Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, the reboot – and a television series Ash Versus The Evil Dead which ran from 2015 to 2018 and starred Campbell.
