Survivor 50 – Week Nine Stock Ticker

Auction Twist, Christian Fallout

I don’t take much of American politics to heart because I don’t live there and their two archaic parties have shifted so far away from the center and the mainstream in recent years that I feel quite badly for my friends and family there who don’t have a moderationist party, centrist voice to choose from there. As South Park once predicted, it truly is a race between a Douche and a Turd.

Now that I have pissed off many of you…

Seriously though, from what I understand, talk show host Jimmy Fallon and President Donald Trump have been taking personal shots at one another. I don’t see how that brings both sides together for a much-needed reconciliation so that politicians there like in the eighties and nineties can do more for the everyday people there. Some Survivor fans though are furious with Fallon for more than his political jabs.

The show has pushed the narrative that Fallon himself was responsible for the twist that greased the wheels for the departure of Christian Hubicki. The situation isn’t as simple as that though.

One, Fallon may have possibly suggested the idea if his input was sought by the producers but he has no control over the show. Any twist is production-controlled and implemented by Survivor’s team.

Two, the people who have the final say over ANYTHING to do with the show is CBS Studios itself. They own the rights to the Survivor franchise in America. Next, Survivor Entertainment Group, Castaway Television Productions and Mark Burnett’s production banner, MGM Television, produce the show for CBS. So that, production team, with Executive Producer Jeff Probst at the head, have the next most input and influence.

Three, The players all sign a contract to participate in the show. In that contract it states the following:

“Participant acknowledges and agrees that the Series is an entertainment program and that the Participant has no property or other right to any prize or any particular outcome of the Series.”

“Producer may disqualify Participant from the Series at any time, for any reason or no reason, in Producer’s sole and absolute discretion, including but not limited to Participant’s breach of any of the terms of this Agreement… or if Producer determines, in its sole discretion, that Participant’s continued presence in the Series is detrimental to the Producer or the Series.”

“Producer’s decisions on all matters related to the Series… including, without limitation, the selection of the contestants, the elimination of contestants, the awarding of any prizes, and the interpretation and application of the Rules, shall be final, binding, and not subject to challenge or appeal.”

“Producer reserves the right to change, add to, or take away from the Rules, the format of the Series, and/or the Nature of the Challenges, and/or the prizes… at any time, before, during or after the production of the Series, in Producer’s sole and absolute discretion.”

“In the event of any conflict between the Rules and this Agreement, this Agreement shall govern. Participant understands that the Producer’s interpretation of the Rules and this Agreement is final and binding.”

Four, Christian didn’t have to go on the journey. He volunteered therefore accepting the rewards and consequences of his own choices. He bares some accountability for what happened to himself.

So in short, when you sign the contract you agree that the producers can change the rules of the game at any time and you have no legal recourse. Their decisions are final. So, technically, the producers could announce during the finale that the jury is being scrapped and the viewers are picking the winner this season. Survivor is not a game show and doesn’t have to follow those rules, laws. It is entertainment programming, reality television. It is a competition for entertainment purposes only.

In my chat with Christian, he believes that the twist did play a role in his exit.

He told me:

“I think that having to vote for myself, and specifically publicly stating that I had to vote for myself, I think that did make something of a difference because my understanding is that it did that. It did seem like Emily was a real contender to go home, which, by the way, she came out swinging for me. She could have just tossed me under the bus. It’s like Christian is, you know, voting for himself. He’s done, right? But she didn’t. She didn’t. She fought for me. She fought to get out Ozzy over me. I think that was a thing that people talk about in the episodes, like, why wouldn’t we put out Christian, he’s in a corner. He can’t protect himself with a vote shot in the dark, right? So, I think it was a difference maker there but doesn’t mean that wasn’t a great position either way.”

Here is what we will see on this week’s episode:

“A Side Dish of Chaos – One castaway comes clean to the tribe about a previously deceptive move. The crowd favorite SURVIVOR auction returns, with an extra special season 50 spin. Chaos ensues when social media icon MrBeast arrives on the scene, on SURVIVOR 50.

The twist could be:

Beast Coin

A player finds or wins the coin and, if they reach the Final 6, they can choose to flip it.If it lands on heads, the $1 million prize is doubled to $2 million. If it lands on tails, there is speculation about a penalty, such as losing their vote at the next Tribal Council or even an immediate “elimination” risk.

Exit Money

Mr Beast shows up with a briefcase and offers a specific player (or the whole group) a significant sum of money to quit the game on the spot.

Feastables Promotion

He appears during the Survivor Auction to provide a “mystery item” or to sponsor a massive food reward featuring his Feastables chocolate brand.

On with this week’s Survivor Stock Ticker:

He was already a target and a threat but like Coach and Chrissy, the twist he was caught up made it very attractive to boot him.

Aubry took her own destiny in her hands last episode moving away from Devens and making an alliance with Jonathan. These are moves that could take her much further in the game as people seem to have bigger fish to fry.

Like it or not, he pulled Christian into his confidence even after everything they had been through and took away his final hope, before giving it back.

Aubry has left his side because he has become such a big target. The stars are aligning against him.

Who’s next to go?

He seems to be the obvious, clear boot this week especially if Emily spills the beans about the fake idol, which she probably will knowing her.
