Will Smith is slated to portray crime boss Nicky Barnes for the Netflix biopic The Council.
The film is “the never-before told story of a crime syndicate consisting of seven African-American men who ruled Harlem in the 1970s and early 80s.”
Dubbed “Mr. Untouchable” by the press, Barnes teamed with the Italian-American Mafia to head an international drug trafficking ring.
Barnes later become a federal informant.
Writing the series will be Peter Landesman (Concussion, Parkland).
