That is all she wrote for gumshoe Veronica Mars, for now.
TV Line reports that Hulu is not renewing the series for a fifth season.
Originally airing on UPN and the CW before moving to Hulu, the show made a 24-year-old Kristen Bell a star after she portrayed Mars, a teen detective assisting her father, Sheriff Keith Mars (Enrico Colantoni), with various cases while working on her own.
The fifth season mostly disappointed fans who were not into the changes made to the character, her taking an unnecessary sidekick under her wing and killing Mars’ soulmate, Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring), because for some reason creator Rob Thomas didn’t think Mars’ character could be married, buy a pet lizard, care for house plants and still be a private detective.
Responding to the backlash from fan Thomas said: “I know what the show needs to be moving forward.”
Thomas told TV Line that if the show ever returns, he already has some ideas.
” It won’t be this exactly, but some version of Murder in a Manor House. Something that is so explicitly detective-y… I want to really lean into that we are a detective show… I feel like Season 4 was the bridge season, to take us from half soap opera/half mystery show to full detective/mystery show.” he said.
The original series was so popular that Thomas and Bell earned enough money through a fund-raising campaign to produce a movie, simply titled Veronica Mars, in 2014.
