Diehard fans of The Witcher novels and video games are taking exception with the chronology of the Netflix series.
The Witcher tells the story of the Witcher himself Geralt, princess Ciri and sorcerer Yennefer. Their individual stories are fated to mesh eventually but in the Netflix series, each is on their own path and at different times in the Witcher timeline giving some fans massive migraines trying to piece everything together.
On Reddit, show runner Lauren Hissrich addressed the concerns of fans who have felt very confused.
“They’re stories don’t happen simultaneously, so we knew we needed to play with time a bit. This will definitely change in season two, as they’re stories have begun to converge,” she stated.
Hissrich defended the timeline of the series saying that not all stories are told in chronological order, movies like Pulp Fiction, for example.
“I think it’s a matter of personal choice. I like movies with structures I have to figure out as I go — other people may not,” she said reiterating that next season the story structure will be more linear.
Although it premiered in December of 2019, The Witcher was the sixth most popular release of the year and the second most popular television series.
There is no premiere date set for season two of The Witcher.
